Raikou aroused himself from sleep, as he felt a disturbance, something he could not quite place. There was a very familiar feeling about it, he just didn’t know where from. Walking to the outside of the lookout, and staring around, everything seemed peaceful. No, it was nothing near here that was disturbing him.
The only other place he felt any responsibility about looking after was the planet Icer.
That was it. The Planet of Icer. He didn’t quite understand how he had come to be what you could call a Guardian for the planet, but he was. And it was there that there was a disturbance.
Placing two fingers to his head, Raikou stood silently, trying to find any Icer Ki signature he could recognise. Eventually he found the sign of an Elder, and, detecting a hint of this Icer’s anxiety, immediately followed it, appearing behind him instantly. In front of him, lay a city laid to ruin.
“What happened here?” asked Raikou, causing the Elder to look around a little faster than he would usually have, though he otherwise seemed to act as though it was perfectly normal to have someone that wasn’t there a second before asking questions like this.
“Your kind, who are no longer welcome upon this planet, did this,” came the reply.
“Does this mean I too, am unwelcome here?”
“Many here will wish you to stay away, after seeing the destruction in the hearts of many of those of your race. They will care not that you seek to help.”
“I see. I still feel obliged to deal with these. Did you see who it was?”
“Three Sayains, they look the same as you’d expect from any of your race. Your blue hair, dress sense, and tattoos are rather unique.”
“Nothing that could help me identify them?”
“Well... One had three scars on his right cheek. And another was almost a full seven foot in height. The other had nothing particularly noticeable about his appearance. But in all, a rather interesting looking group. They shouldn’t be too hard to find.”
“Right. Well I won’t find them until I start looking, so I’d best be off.” He nodded once to the Elder, who did not return the acknowledgement, and flew straight up. Looking around, he decided on a direction, and shot forward.
Several days later, however, Raikou had seen no sign of the other Sayains. If it wasn’t for his inner instincts, and the fact that he could sense the destruction of this planet almost as clearly as he could for his own home planet of Earth, he might have thought the Sayains had just destroyed the one city before leaving.
Another day passed, and Raikou came upon the ruins of another village, this time smaller. From above, he saw a glint of something shiny in the rubble, but upon investigation, it turned out to be a worthless piece of metal. He left it, and moved on.
After that, Raikou seemed to come across small, ruined villages much more often than he had done at first. Three more days passed, and he found another 2 villages, but still the only survivor had been the Elder Icer he had first talked to.
He kept going over that conversation in his head as the days dragged on, even though he had always hated talking in such a formal way because of the Elders. There was one seven foot tall Warrior. One had three scars down his right cheek. They all had normal, black coloured hair. Most likely blue and white Sayain armour.
Suddenly, an extremely noticeable power level reared up to Raikou’s left. He looked round, alarmed. That was definitely a Sayain Ki signature. Two fingers to his head, Raikou IT’ed himself to that signature, and stared down at what was happening. A small group of Icers were left standing, shouting, and the Sayain that seemed to be the one with no particular markings was laughing, threatening them, telling them to back down, or they’d be killed.
The giant Sayain was watching in silence, seemingly amused, but not laughing. The last Sayain, with the scars on his cheek, seemed to be picking his way through rubble, apparently looking for anyone left alive, or anything of any value.
Nobody seemed to notice Raikou appear.
He took the advantage, dropped to ground level, and closed his eyes, splitting his Ki. A second later, Raikou was looking at three mirror images of himself. One crept round the rubble, on Raikou’s right to get behind the scarred Sayain. Another crept to the left, to get behind the giant.
Counting down in his head...Five... Four... Three... Two... One... He jumped forward, firing small Ki blasts into the rubble before each of the Sayains, but lost track of the other two fights, as he and the fourth doppelganger rushed the last figure.
BANG. The figure next to Raikou was down; he absorbed him back into himself, though this hardly made any difference to his Pl, with the two more copies out to distract the other Sayains. He hoped the Icers would join in, these Sayains were strong, though nothing compared to how Raikou had been before he nearly died.
Raikou’s fist nearly connected with the Sayain’s face, but the Sayain disappeared, and Raikou slipped, tripped and fell forward. A Ki blast hit Raikou in the side of the head, and he went flying, crashing into the last few bricks of a building that were left.
He felt another of the split form copies joining itself back into Raikou’s body. This meant it was two on one, another mirror image of Raikou had been defeated.
Without getting up from behind the pile of rubble that was protecting him, Raikou sent out 30 or so small yellow Ki orbs, with a small amount of his own Ki signature inside them. These Ki Cameras showed a clearer picture of the surrounding area than his last attempt had, and it was shown to him in the back of his mind without him having to concentrate on them.
Most of the remaining Icers were attempting to hold back the scarred Sayain, and some were helping the last remaining doppelganger of Raikou keep the giant Sayain back. This left him one on one with the other Sayain, his only chance to eliminate him, before another joined in. Raikou started to charge a Ki blast.
Small and dim at first, it grew in both size and brightness, and soon was starting to make the sky look dim, even though it was just after midday. He could see that the last Sayain was torn between curiosity and wariness about what Raikou was doing. When he finally realised the sun itself was dimming, he decided to try and stop Raikou performing his Eclipse Beam Cannon.
Raikou leapt into the air as the rubble pile he was hiding behind exploded with Ki from the Sayain, and the last of the solar energy entered the Ki ball in Raikou’s hand. Another Ki ball passed straight through the air where Raikou had been a fraction of a second before. With a yell of excitement, Raikou sent the blast straight into the Sayain’s back, throwing him forward, to the rubble.
With a crash, Raikou’s fist forced the Sayain’s face straight into the crumbled concrete of the ground. Blood spurted from his nose, covering the ground with the dark red, glistening liquid. He saw in the back of his mind the scarred Sayain deal a death blow to a second Icer. It was just a matter of time, possible seconds before he reached Raikou.
The giant was being kept busy by Raikou’s other half, though no more Icers were left with him. Raikou had a sudden flash of inspiration, and withdrew his split form, to double his Pl to its base level. He formed a small aura of Ki around his own hand, concentrated it into what was almost a blade, and dug it into the back of the Sayain.
A scream of pain accompanied the spray of blood that escaped the Sayain’s lips.
By the time the giant had reached him, Raikou had turned round, had a large ball of blue Ki in his hand, and could release it straight into the giant’s face.
When the flash from the blast died away, Raikou was surprised to see the giant standing exactly where he had been before he had released it. Suddenly, a hand was around Raikou’s throat, choking him, and lifting him from the ground. He attempted to kick out, but was being held too far from the giant’s body. CRASH. A fist collided with the side of his head, almost knocking him out cold.
“This one killed Ritz,” the giant one shouted out to the scarred Sayain.
“Well kill him then.”
Raikou was almost unconscious from lack of air by this time, but he was determined to grasp onto the last threads of consciousness he had left. Another aura of energy surrounded his hand, though Raikou was barely aware of what was happening or what he was doing.
Solidifying, the aura became a blade once more, and Raikou finally realised what was happening. He swung his arm upwards, to slash at the giant’s arm, but by the time Raikou reached it, the giant was no longer there. Raikou’s arm continued upwards until a knee connected with the back of his head, sending him sprawling face first into the rubble once more.
He could see no way of reversing his position, short of a miracle. With a small crash, a wall of dust erupted from the rubble between him and the giant Sayain. Even with the Ki Cameras showing him what was happening around him the whole time, Raikou hadn’t noticed a single Icer child hiding behind (or possibly under) the small pile of rubble that marked the position of the easternmost house of the village until just minutes before.
Suddenly, a huge Power level reared itself inside the child, though the giant didn’t seem to notice this. With a roar of laughter, he sent about 10 Ki blasts at the child in quick succession, before turning his attention back to Raikou, apparently convinced the child was taken care of.
The scarred Sayain however, had noticed the sudden eruption of energy in the vicinity, as he stopped playing around with the Icers he was fighting. His right arm went straight through one Icer’s stomach, killing him instantly, and with his free hand, the Sayain grabbed the last Icer’s head, his palm covering the Icer’s face. With a bang, the Icer went flying straight across the village, and ended up out of sight of Raikou, though with his Ki Cameras, he could tell the Icer was dead.
The scarred Sayain charged at the child, which caused the giant Sayain to turn and watch in confusion, which created the perfect distraction for Raikou, who had by now mostly recovered his breath. Charging, the blue haired Sayain brought back an arm, and launched a barrage of punches and kicks at the giant.
For his size, the larger Sayain had a lot of speed, and excellent reflexes, which allowed him to block almost all of Raikou’s attacks. Not giving up any space for his opponent to reverse their positions, Raikou redoubled his efforts, moving his arms faster and faster.
Searching his memory for anything that could give him an advantage here, without cutting his power, Raikou found what he wanted. “SHIYOKEN,” he roared, and just as the sound passed his lips, an extra pair of arms sprouted from his shoulders, and joined in the assault. After several long seconds, the balance tipped, and the larger of the two was soon backing up, to stop himself taking too much damage.
Downward swing, uppercut, body blow, duck and swing of the legs. The giant was brought down to the ground, and Raikou’s extra pair of arms shrunk back into his body. Standing over the head of the Sayain, Raikou placed his foot in his throat and started to push down, crushing the Sayain’s windpipe.
His arms moved to tense by his right side, and a blue ball of light appeared in his cupped hands. “Khaaa...” The ball grew in size, the Sayain coughed and spluttered, his arms scrabbling at Raikou’s leg. “Meee...” Blood started to trickle from the giant’s mouth, his arms became weaker, almost dropping to his sides. “Haaa...” The ball was almost full size now. “Meee...”
“HAAAAAA!” But this wasn’t Raikou’s voice. He spun, just in time to catch a glimpse of the bright white light heading in his direction, before being thrown backwards, and crashing into the ground, his head hitting a large slab of concrete.
The clouds above him swam in and out of focus. He saw, out of the corner of his eye, the young Icer and the scarred Sayain still fighting. The giant seemed either unwilling or unable to get back up for at least half a minute, before the blackness swept over Raikou.
He didn’t know how much time had passed when he awoke, but it couldn’t have been too long. The sky hadn’t darkened yet, but the two Sayains had left. He sat up, feeling groggy. Looking around, he saw the young Icer lying on the ground, and a few dim yellow orbs still hanging around, though they no longer showed him his surroundings as they had when he had first summoned them.
Scrabbling over the rubble to the child, he realised he wasn’t sure whether Icers had pulses like Humans or Sayains. He placed each hand on one of the Icer’s shoulders, and shook gently. No response.
Fearing the worst, Raikou shook harder. Again, the Icer didn’t respond. Placing his hand on the Icer’s chest, Raikou charged a small amount of Ki energy, and allowed it to flow into the Icer’s body, hoping that if the child was alive, he would respond.
A small flicker in the young Icer’s eyelids alerted Raikou to the fact that there was a chance of reviving him. Slowly increasing the amount of Ki he was passing into the Icer’s body, he kept transferring energy for a few more seconds then stopped, and waited. A minute or so later, the child stirred, and rolled onto his stomach, to push himself up onto his knees.
“Are you okay?” asked Raikou.
The child nodded. “I think so.”
“How... How do you have such a strong Power level? I sensed it during the fight.”
“I... Really don’t know. It just happens when I lose my temper.”
“Okay. Do you know what happened after I passed out?”
“Not really, just that I was fighting the smaller one for a minute or so and the other one attacked me from behind. Next thing I know, you woke me up.”
“Right. I’m going after them. Are you coming, or are you going to find somewhere else to stay for now?”
“There isn’t really anywhere else I can stay, my parents were killed by those three. I’m coming.”
A sudden surge of anger passed through Raikou, as he realised for the first times that lives were being torn apart by the rampage of these three, not just ended. “Okay.” Holding out his hand, Raikou instructed the Icer to hold on tight, and placed two fingers to his own head. Searching for either of the Ki signatures of the Sayains, he locked onto the higher, and easier to find of the two, and teleported himself and the child to their position.
Raikou found himself in the mouth of a dark cave, overlooking the rubble of a city he assumed they had destroyed.
“Holy... Hey, Boric, look who showed up.”
“How the hell did you find us?” yelled the scarred Sayain, Boric.
Raikou ignored the question, and, releasing the child’s hand, walked forward until he was standing in front of Boric. As soon as Raikou reached him, the Sayain moved his arm forward, placed the flat of his palm against Raikou’s stomach, and attempted to fire a Ki blast straight through him.
Raikou, however, was ready for this, grabbed the scarred Sayain’s hand, and twisted it to point towards the giant, causing the blast to fire right across the large cave, narrowly avoiding Boric’s partners face, and crashing into the side of the mountain under which they were hiding.
Kicking the Sayain in the face, to give him time to escape, Raikou jumped back, and started flying backwards out of the cave, grabbing the Icer child on the way out. As they watched, small rocks started to drop from the roof of the cave, almost immediately followed by larger ones. A second or so after the rocks had started falling; Boric and the other Sayain erupted from the mouth of the cave, and headed straight for Raikou and the Icer.
Both warriors fired Ki attacks straight at the two Sayains heading for them, but the attacks passed through them, as they disappeared and reappeared behind the child. The giant one picked up the Icer, and started to choke him from behind.
“Take one step closer, and this one dies,” shouted the scarred fighter.
“Like you won’t kill him anyway!” replied Raikou, but held himself back none-the-less.
“Well feel free to test us, we don’t mind taking another life. You might have noticed we never thought twice about it before,” laughed Boric.
Pausing for just a fraction of a second, Raikou decided on his next action, bowed his head, and brought his hand upwards, as though giving up, but placing two fingers to his head. He teleported directly behind Boric, and grabbed him around the throat from behind, in exactly the same way the larger Sayain was holding the Icer child.
“You kill him; I kill your friend here.” Raikou told the Icer’s captor.
The giant hesitated with dealing the killing blow, which gave the child enough of an opening to twist himself out of the Sayain’s temporarily slackened grip. Raikou did not give Boric the same opportunity, as he tightened his grip on the Sayain’s throat. He moved his other hand upwards, to grab the Sayain’s chin and twist, but before he could, the larger Sayain sent a large Ki blast directly at the space Raikou’s face would have been had he not dropped his captive and moved.
Boric closed his eyes and held up one hand in front of him, pointing towards the Icer. Raikou was ready to intercept any attack that passed between them, but none came. He was intent on the two Sayains he was facing, so he was almost surprised to hear the Icer screaming in pain behind him.
Boric’s hand was still up in front of him, and his fingers were stretching, and folding up in turn. Raikou recognised this move, and charged forward to stop Boric hurting the Icer child, but was intercepted by the giant.
“GET OUT OF THE WAY!” shouted Raikou, both arms up in front of him, glowing with Ki, which was gathering in his hands. Angered pulsed through him, but the giant obstacle in front of him just laughed. With a huge crash, Raikou brought his fists crashing into each side of the Sayain’s head, using all the Ki he had charged to cause as much damage as possible.
The giant dropped from midair, almost 10 feet to the ground below them. Raikou was unsure as to exactly when they had reached this high, but he didn’t care. Rushing forwards, he was almost upon Boric, before the scarred Sayain turned to face him, and placed all the attention from his attack to Raikou, causing internal pain, the like of which he had never endured.
This pain went on for several seconds, before Raikou managed to start to fight it, and soon he was glowing, surrounded by a solid, bright gold aura. The pain suddenly ceased, and Raikou dashed forward, feeling a surge of energy he had felt once before, when he had first achieved the first level of Super Sayain.
Power surged through his body, above any he could sense inside those of his opponents, and when he reached the scarred Sayain, he could see fear flash behind the eyes, but in front of that, was Raikou’s own reflection, in which he could see golden hair in place of the usual blue and green eyes instead of the also usual blue.
He drew back a fist, which he forced forward into Boric’s face, before repeating the process, multiple times a second, with both hands. Soon, his opponent was out cold, and flying towards the ground. Following him, Raikou charged a large Ki ball in one hand, which he smashed straight into the Sayain’s head as he caught up.
Once more, an aura of Ki surrounded his hand, which solidified into a blade, as it had earlier, and he dug it straight into the Sayain’s throat. Blinded by rage, Raikou hardly even cared this time that he had killed a fellow Sayain. Spinning around, he found the body of the giant on the ground, and repeated this.
Suddenly, the rage left his body, and his head cleared. The aura surrounding him vanished, as did the gold in his hair, which became it’s normal blue, as did his eyes.
Turning around once more, he saw the corpse of the Icer child. He had no idea how the child had died, and the sight brought tears unbidden to his eyes. An hour later, he found himself at the bottom of a 3 foot deep hole in the ground of the child’s original village, his hands bleeding from ripping through the dirt and rocks on the ground.
Lifting the child up, and depositing him carefully in the hole, Raikou pushed the pile of dirt from the ground back on top of the child, turned, looked around, and teleported back to Aki’s Lookout Tower, which he now thought he could use as a temporary home, rather than sleeping rough.
